2011 2nd Semi v Karingal Seniors

Ash Eames made his presence felt around the ground, being the best of the big men. Not his fault we went under !!

Coming off our biggest win of the year against  Mt Eliza we ventured in to the 2nd Semi against Karingal with a slight modicon of confidence particularly since we had beaten them by 54 points in our first outing and in 44 points in 0ur July home ground encounter. On a 3 win streak we went in to the game with 3  changes, strangely dropping the in form Grover and the experienced  Zannon Daff while Ando went on holidays due to a knee strain..

In to the side came Westy from the Rays and Redders  from the 2`S to bolster the back line and Smurf also promoted from the Magoo’s . Not too bad a change, but why change a winning team you may ask !!

Ash Eames plays all over Karingals Duncan Proud to mark,  playing 3 ball at once !!      ..Wouldnt want to be Duncans agates….   click to enlarge !!

Kicking to the Kars St end in to a slight head wind the play went back and forth until in the 6th min when The Great Ulmer marked 30 m out at a slight angle and proceeded with a prodigious left footer to bring up the first goal of the day 1.1 to 0.1 .  Shots at goal were hard to come by and it was to be another 5 min before Ulmer got a second chance to add to his tally and goaled from almost in the square 2.1 to 0.1.

Six min on as the ball was run back and forth with no one taking control Steve Hunt marked over Dale Carroll just short of the centre, but an indiscretion brought a 50 m penalty taking the kick back to just in front of the square and a certain goal 2.2 to 1.1.

As the Q ended, Dylan Hoare in going up for a mark in our forward line, managed to break his arm coming down thus putting him out for the game and unfortunately the rest of the season.  Life can be **** as they say !!

The Q had been lackluster and but for the solid play of Byron up back 8 gets, Ulmer up forward and Roberts and Lester on the ball we would have been struggling to be in front at the short break.

Whilst this had appeared to be a very ordinary Q for us, it was to prove to be our best possession wise for the game, which was not saying much..if any thing !!

Benny Tellis had a very ordinary day for him, but here makes his presence felt..

Strait in to the 2nd and Dale patrolling the half forward line, ran on to the flank and took a pass within kicking range and converted to g0 3.2 to 1.1. That was to be our only goal for the Q as our poor kicking  ( 4 points) wiped us out of the game as Karingal proceeded to kick 3.1 for the same period.

The side looked second rate as they racked up a record low number of  possessions for a Q (45) with only Dale, Ash,  Steve and Tellis having any input in to the game as our previously invincible backline fell apart at the seems except for the brilliant work of Paul on Lade and Kevin on 33.  The boys went to the long break behind, 3.6.24 to 4.2.26 and a verbal lashing on the books.

Westy down from the Stingrays found the Karingal forwards a handful but gave his all for the team.

If anyone was thinking that things would turn around as they always do in our 2nd halves, they were soon disappointed as only Bundy ( a great Q with 10 gets), Steve, Lester and Rhys got more than one kick for the Q.  And we re recorded record minimum possessions with a miserable 37.     Its true !!

As Karingal poured on 4.1 we could only answer with a pathetic 1.1, Bundy being the sole scorer, and the game was over without a murmur..The Oranges saw us out of the game  4.7.31 to 8.3.51.

The last Q, generally our finest saw Smurf and Lester trying hard, but only 4min in Lade took a mark on the flank over Carroll who infringed him and upset the Umpire who gave him a 50 m penalty taking Lade to the goal line ….silly ….4.7 to 9.3

Then we had a little burst of sunshine as Lewis  took 3 marks and goaled at the 15, 22 and 25 min marks….all too late as we finished 7.8.50 to 10.5.65.. My best Paul Wintle keeping Lade to one goal, Kevin who kept his man scoreless and Ash Eames dominant in the ruck

Better luck this week against Seaford…
