Steve Aldons first sight of the ball . Go to the Gallery to see how he faired !!
Mather’s Maulers came in to the final game of the H & A season with only MorningtonĀ to beat to go thru the season as undefeated Minor Premiers. Having beaten The Puppies in last years GF and convincingly in Rd 9 this year by 50 points, 11.11.77 to 3.9.27 , the Maulers were never the less not taking Mornington lightly as any game with them over the last fourĀ years has been an all out battle.
This game proved to be no different with Morningtons defence playing a major role in keeping YCW to a 14 pt lead at the long break 3.4.22 to 1.2.8. After the break however the Dogs put on 5.4 while keeping YCW scoreless to go 20 pts in front at the change.
All looked over for the Stonecats and any chance of going unbeaten thru the year however the boys lifted a notch as has been their trademark this year when under pressure and fought back to level the scores and then go ahead in the last minutes of the game.
Not to be outdone the Dogs went ahead again by 5 pts with a goal in to the wind with a minute to go on the clock. Again the ball was won out of the centre and a long kick to the goal mouth was marked brilliantly by Steve Aldons and with everyone on the edge of their seats Steve slotted it thru to put us 1 point in front with 30 seconds to go and win us the game.
Best from all the 22 were Nada, Smerf Smrdel, Kevin Lylak, Andy Fowler and Ryley Hodson while Jake Dunn kicked 1 goal to go to 54 for the year and finish on top of the MPNFL and Club Goal Kicking Ladders.
A great 2009 H& A season for the boys going thru undefeated and taking their run of wins to 35 since their last loss in Rd 5, 2008 to Karingal going thru the season with only this loss. Only one Under age side has gone thru a season undefeated being the 1976 under 17 side which beat Frankston Rovers by 130 pts in the GF.
