On April 20th 1967 the first ever Senior YCW Team took the field at the Carter Oval Burnley, to play against Hawthorn in the B Division of the YCW Football Association/Victoria competition.

Coached and Captained by Peter Catarinich the side had a first up victory, winning 11.13.79 to 9.20.74.

Little over a year later at 2pm on the 15th September at Warringal Park Heidelburg, much the same Frankston YCW Football Club team took the field against the Ormond YCW Football Club in the Grand Final battle for the 1968 B-Grade South Division,YCW Football League Premiership…

Just one month short of 40 years from that great and glorious day, 16 of the 20 players who took the field returned to Jubilee Park, the Ancestral home of the Stonecats, to remember, reminisce and reflect on one particular September day in 1968 they all hold dear

For all the highlites of the 1968 Premiership Reunion held on Saturday23 August hit…Age shall not weary them. !!!

Retirements

Two old favorites will be playing their last games for the Club in Saturdays reserve match against Hastings, one of whom is Nick Schneider ( the handsome one ! ) who started out way back in 1995 as Vice Captain of the Under 18 Grand Finalists during which year he played his first senior game.

He missed out on the 1999 final series due to injury, but then went on to be a member of the 2000 runnerup and the 2001 and 2004 Premiership sides

Played his entire football career in the forward line either in the pocket or between the sticks and accumulated over 160 goals in his 134 game career

Also hanging up the boots will be Shane Gregory our tall tap ruck man who also had his first senior game in 1995, since which he has played 17 first and 104 reserve games, in a career that saw him pick up a premiership medal in 2001, and runner-up medallions in the 1999 and 2000 grand finals..

Also disappearing in to the mists of time is Sean Lafontaine Reserve Coach for the last 4 years who got us to a 4th and unlucky runner-up in 2007…  Which leaves the Q !!.. Who will be taking over the reigns in 09. ???

Are Turbo and his Asst Snowy going to run, will Hardy return, perhaps Koopy ? .  Stay tuned !!

Well done Nick, Sean and Shane !!

Player Auction.NOW WITH COMPLETE FORM GUIDE,OWNERS AND WINNERS

The field for the 30th running of The Player Auction met in the Birdcage at Jubilee Park last Saturday to go under the eye of a huge gathering of onlookers and prospective buyers, keen to pick up a bargain or two, a smokey or one of the large number of proven stayers, gallopers and sprinters from among one of the best batches of fillies and geldings to go before the hammer for a number of years….

Bidding was heated for all of the lots, with record prices being paid for some of the more fancied combinations. One of the Buyers, rumoured to be aligned with a major well known Carlton based Organisation, overwhelmed the market to capture the 3 most favored groups in what was a major coup for his consortium…..In what was an deserved break to the high octane tension, the evening was finished off with the announcement of Nick Brown and Bundy Bary as the Auction players for Round 3…….go to Bugs Babble for the Field/Owners&winners..
