Pines at Home v Reserves/Seniors

Matty Meagher and Andrew Borrie vie for the mark in the 1st Q
THE SENIORS
Friday night saw the first night game ever played by Frankston YCW under lights kick off at 7.30 pm or thereabouts at Frankston Park for our home game vs Pines, lying in last place on the ladder, but with 3 good wins against some quality sides and promising to offer some solid opposition.
The game was played on a great surface, almost forgotten in MPNFL circles, before a bumper crowd who braved the elements to watch the game in freezing conditions more suited to ice hockey than football.
Whilst Pines showed determination and skill that belide it cellar dweller position, they could not cope with the ability of the YCW onballers ,forward line or the backs who showed once more why they are the best backline in the comp, leaving no doubt as to the final outcome.
A highlite of the evening was the successful return of Darren Mizzi to the senior side for his first game since injury in the first round of the 2006 season against Hastings, and his quality performance on the wing
The game started off brightly enough with Pines kicking 2 quick goals via the boot of Shaun White to YCWs 5 for the Q, but that was their last score till halfway in to the last Q.

Daniel McNamara bites the dust..our ground at its best!!
With Benny Poole relishing the return to his old hunting ground with a superb display of aggressive and skilled ball control in the perfect ground conditions, Tony Lester back with a disciplined display of forward play and Leigh Stewart just getting better and better in the hard ball get department the Pines defense were always under the pump , eventually capitulating to Hackett`s 5 goals and Steve and Kyles 3 and 2 respectively to go down 16.15.111 to 4.12.36.
Pines were not helped by some wayward kicking but it was always going to be hard down there with Jie and Andy putting in some top notch defense and in the end YCW just proved too strong in all departments. My best for the night Leigh and BT … but I`m no expert !!
THE RESERVES
Another clash of the titans and the Pines cellar dwellers, which if Eady Asp crumbled under the force of the Tigers, would see us on top of the ladder for the first time this year.
With that virtuoso of football tactics and coaching trickery in Ben Davies seemingly at the helm, the day promised to bring us some interest despite the disparities of position and the absence of the ones !!
With the very welcome news that Nick King was making his return to the side from over a years absence due to injury and that seemingly perennial injury prone Captain Hegers who was also going to make yet another cameo appearance… I was excited.
Kicking against a very strong breeze an immediate impact was made by YC with Chappy sinking an early goal but despite having 90% of the ball thereafter inacurate kicking together with the swirling wind and a packed forward line meant that the scorer was barely troubled in the 1stQ.

David Bodley does it in style…beach football !!
The second Q proved more successfull however, after Chipper (2 gls)and Chappy (1gl) were given the benefit of a cleared forward 50, with the ability to put in some leads and put pressure on the Pines backs.
The lead at 1/2 time opened up to a 40 pt gap after a 4 goal 7 Q whilst the last 1/2 went according to plan with the onballers Brad Grove,Tails and Nick King providing some great ball to the forwards and Twiggy on fire once more providing a great focus for attack at half forward.
The game petered out to its boring conclusion with a windy, inacurate 10.17.77 to a 3.1.19 scoreline
