ABOUT

Started his football career with…..

In 1998 joined the Melbourne Demons affiliated team, Sandringham Football Club playing 8 senior and 50 reserve games, mainly at CHF, kicking 58 goals……before joining Eastern District League club, Mitcham in 2002 were he met mate Andy Kiely.

Played 60 senior games with Mitcham at CHB up until his final season with them in 2005. Following their relegation in 2005 he joined Old Xavarians in the A grade Division of the Victorian Amateur Football League coached by Barry Richardson. Had a stellar season playing at centre half back, being a major factor in the side finishing second on the ladder, and playing in the grand final. Beaten by Old Haileybury 13.8 (86) vs. 9.9 (63) in the GF, Ben had a great final series finishing in the best players in each of the 3 games and winning Xavarians best player in finals award.

Recruited to YCW with his mate, Andrew Kiely by club Asst Coach Steve Wyatt, Ben has had a solid preseason and practice series. A tall, strong, key position player, who can take the park at either half back or half forward, has speed, marking strength and a long accurate kick. This experienced player can provide either a sure avenue of attack or defence…I’m excited….  What I said 2007 preseason..!!

Was like a breath of fresh air in to the club providing some much needed enthusiasm, height and marking ability to either the key forward or back positions..proved to have all those attributes mentioned above… and more. Solid in defence and effective up forward bagging 20 goals he suffered a sprained ankle in the 17th round missing the 2nd semi where his height and strong aerial work were sorely missed in the defeat by Seaford.

Back for the prelim he played a cracker of a game kicking 4 with a near best on display but was hampered by the injury in the GF finding it hard to bother the scorers..Now that Boyd has left it is expected that he will take a more positive role up forward and should kick a heap of goals in 2008
