Qualifying Final v Red Legs At The Python Pit ..Weather Balmy

Benny Tellis was at his awesome best onball and gave great drive out of the centre
Well it was a long time in coming, 4 years in fact, but Saturdays demolition of Mt Eliza at Pines went just a little way in healing those nightmares of our 132 point thrashing by the Red Legs in the 2005 Grand Final.. well maybe not, but Bugs Battlers certainly put on a show for all our supporters and the large crowd that gathered at the Python Pit to see us move on to the 2nd Semi Final v The Tigers by effortlessly trouncing Mt Eliza 13.12.90 to 6.13.49..
Ducky marks in defence..one handed !!
Whilst they were thrashed by 127 points against The Tigers in Rd 18, they were missing 7 of their best players and the Stonecats were not going to take them lightly as the game started with YCW kicking in to a strong wind blowing from the Seaford end. In fact Mt Eliza started strongly and were first to worry the scorer with `the alphabet`putting thru a long goal but this was quickly answered by the Bennies Tellis and Hackett at their elusive best.
Both sides were getting plenty of ball from the centre in to their forward 50`s but both sides backs were making it hard to score with Kieley, Ducky and Andy D on top of their opponents. The Q finished 5.2.32 to 4.4.28 after a very even first Q with Stewart , Locky and Dougy all kicking singles.
With the wind against them in the 2nd Q The Mounties dug even deeper to hold on to the game keeping us to only 2 goals scored by Ben Hackett and Jie Coughlan. Dylan Hoare, Brendan Meagher and the other backs were equal to the task however, keeping The Mounties to a single goal and with the game poised to go either way at the long break 7.4.46 to 5.6.36
Benny Hackett gets 1 of his 2 goals in the 1st Q
After the 1/2 time break the tide began to turn with the sustained effort of our onballers Tellis, Poole, Lester and Stewart finally breaking the Mt Eliza onballers and winning all the ball out of the centre. Keeping Mt Eliza scoreless YCW Bugs Boys put on 2 goals for the Q courtesy of Locky and Benny Tellis and missing 5 they should have got.
In the last Q the dam walls burst, and with winners all over the forward line and on ball, the Fat Lady warbled as Steve Roberts chipped in for 2 goals and Benny Tellis and Locky got singles to go to 3 goals each.
Probably one of our best wins for the season 13.12.90 to 6.13.49, my best were Benny Poole with 20 touches and a million tackles, Benny Tellis with 3 goals and quality roving, Tony Lester with 30 touches and an onball dynamo with the backs in Ducky, Nackers, Dylan and BJ impassable..I`m excited.. Next week the Tigers..
