Senior Presentation-2008final
COACHES SON MAKES IT A THREEPEAT !!!
BUNDY BARRY WINS THE `08 SENIOR XVIII B &
…..IN A CANTER !!!
The calm before the Storm …Collopy Pavillion ready to roll!!
In amazing scenes, reminiscent of last years fever pitched Brownlow Awards showdown, and in front of a packed house at the Dr Collopy Pavilion, Anthony Bundy Barry took out the YCW Football Clubs Senior XVIII Best & Fairest award for the 2nd year in a row..
The Beautiful people were out and about in force, resplendent in their glitz and glamour, together with a myriad of Dignitaries and Luminaries to witness a night of nights at Fridays 2008 Presentation Evening
Some of The Beautiful people..Ducky and Mrs Duck !!
All the pundits had suggested a close shootout between a number of players for the coverted award, based on the Match player awards where Bundy, Lester, Tellis, Hackett, Ducky and Mouse had featured all year with Bundy slightly in front with 3 wins.
But that’s not the way it turned out with Bugs boy Bundy hitting the lead in the 5th round, and from then on, with a brilliant last half of the season, was never threatened to streak away to win in the strait by some 28 points from that consistent stayer Tony Lester and a fast finishing Ben Hackett who started his run far too late to feature in the foto !!
Bundy polled in 15 of the 19 games played, with 6 BonG`s, to better his last years 4 point ( one BonG ) winning performance from the10 games he polled in the previous year…. by 24 votes .
Congratulations to Bundy on another great year !!
Bundy receives the 2008 Best & Fairest award from Coach Barry for the second time in two years…getting boring !!
Bundy also got the the Shield to keep for one year…on the Club wall !!
Tony Lester or Mr Consistent, did even better to poll in an amazing 17 games but couldn’t quite catch the Selectors eyes for the big votes, only garnering one BonG….that being in the 1st Semi
Congratulations to Tony on another great year !!
Tony was very gracious in defeat but hinted he`d be back next year, even better than he was this year, and would be suppling the selectors with free pairs of glasses !!
The other awards handed out to the Seniors, amongst great acclaim, for distinction over the season were Andrew Douglas our refuge from Mornington and Under 18 nemesis from last years Unders GF who got the nod from among another 10 first year favorites including Ulms,Bucky, Hoare etc ( so its quite an Honour ),
Andrew Douglas got our best first year award after destroying us in last years GF..how the wheel turns !!
Brendan Meagher who went on from last years GF disappointment to cement himself as one of our best backline defenders, and played a rip snorter in the semi against Seaford, was an unanimous and welcomed choice for most improved.
Brendan Meagher turned his year around to reinforce his position as one of our premier backmen
Craig Nankervis caught the Coaches eye for his consistent and valuable work in the backline were he did all that was asked of him and more, whenever the Coach had to call on him for that little bit extra, and therefore was Bugs unanimous choice for the Coach’s award..
Nackers and Coach Barry in jovial mood after his acceptance of the Coaches Award for 2008…….Is this the emergence of a new love child ??
Josh Exner who has filled a stopper role in the backline wherever/whenever a opposition gun or marche player had to be silenced, did this with such effect and determination, that he obviously had to be awarded the Most Determined Award…and that’s what he got to every one’s delight !!
Couldn’t stay for his Award as he had far,far more pressing matters to attend to, but he was caught on Camera reflecting as to what everyone might think of him if he pissed off !!
Ben Hackett every one’s Mr Nice Guy, and the only Forward in this bunch, had a great year in front of the sticks kicking 74 goals for the season, (only 3 goals short of League leader ), and was always our focal point of attack who provided us with a consistent source of goals either off his own boot or from unselfish hand-offs and as such won the Most Consistent Award from what must have been a very worthy field. eg Tellis, Lester, Mouse the Duck to name just a few.
Immaculate as ever, everyone’s nice guy, Mr Ben Hackett in pensive mood after receiving well deserved accolades for his on field consistency.
BROWNS BRILLIANCE RUNS BRIGHT !!
MIRANDAS BOY WINS RESERVE BEST & FAIREST
…Â BUBBLE BURSTS FOR TAILS
The Reserves voting was again expected to be a cliff hanger with Taylor getting 4 BonGs in the Match Day Awards, Hegarty 3 and Brown 2. Again that proved to be a smoke and mirrors scenario because Nick wiped the floor with the opposition and streaked the field to win by a mammoth 40 odd points, polling in 12 games, from Andrew Taylor winner of the award for the last two years..
Nick Bown shows of his well deserved spoils to the Camera after his best and Fairest award and the Dr Collopy Perpetual Shield which will also be his for the year..on the Club wall !!
Andrew himself had an amazing year running second, after polling in five of the 7 games he played due to senior duties, 4 of which were BonGs ??….
Andrew Taylor, three years ,three trips to the dais, an amazing year, just what does this guy have to do !!
The Minor trophy’s were taken out by Michael Chaplin, who up in his first year from the Unders, where he topped their goalkicking over the last two years with 50+ bags, went one better this year to lead the Reserve ladder with 33 goals and thus take out the Best First Year Player Award for the ability he showed against the big boys… and Mathew Elliot took out the Most Improved Award for a great year .!!
Matty Elliot with his most improved player trophy.
Anthony Webb another refuge from the Dogs showed a lot of the boys what commitment to the team was all about polling =3rd in the voting and was a clear choice for the Most Determined Award
Tony Webb another Mornington Refugee, was decidedly happy receiving an award in his first year with the Club
Kyle Hutchison in between his forays in to the Senior side had an excellent season with the reserves in which he played a total of 14 games polling in six, and coming in =3rd in the voting to be a crowd favorite in winning the Most Consistent Award.
