YCW at Frankston v Seaford 2nd Semi

5th September At Frankston Park vs Various Teams.., Weather Sunny with late showers !!

After the Kolts Grand Final win it was going to take something special to keep the excitement up and keep the adrenalin flowing, but this certainly came in the form of Mather’s Marvels in yet another knock em down, drag em out battle against our perennial tormentor’s in the Mornington Dogs.

2009 Kolts GF & 2nd Semies 500Up to his old tricks again, marking machine Steve Aldons takes another one !!

The match was detirmined by which team utalized the strong onshore wind blowing strait down the ground to best effect. The 1st Q saw YCW use it to splendidly putting on 5 goals to finish the Q 5.2.32 to 1.4.10. Mornington didnt use it to best effect in the 2nd Q however, being kept to 2 goals with the wind and kicking poorly to register 6 points and go in behind 6.3.39 to 3.10.28

Andrew Knight gone away under pressure

In the 3rd Q Mornington slipped up a cog and went goal for gaol with the Stonecats going  to the Orange break just 19 pts behind 10.8.68 to 6.13.49. The last Q reverted to a good old Mornington comeback with the wind, kicking 3.1 to our 0.3 for us to just scrape in once again this time by 3 pts, 10.11.71 to 9.14.68 to go with our 1 pt win in Rd 18. Best players for the side that goes in to the Grand Final, Marcus Roberts, Kevin Lylak, Jake Foster, Tom Mitchell, Andrew Fowler and Andrew Knight. Double goals were kicked by Dunn, Foster, Knight and Mitchell for a winning score.. Now for the big one !!

Still the band played on as Schneider’s Scintillating Seconds took to the turf to battle Eady/Asp in the game to put us in to the Grand Final. Although beaten by them earlier in the year this time around they had no answer to the brilliance of the Scintillating Seconds. With our smalls and Rucks winning and our HB line providing great drive the game was never in doubt. Keeping them scoreless with the wind we finished the 1st half miles in front 7.5.47 to 1.7.13.

With the fat lady warbling as the grippo was applied in the big break the boys went out and battered the hawks with a 4 goal to 1 last Q and finish the game full of running 12.8.80 to 5.14.44 and give all the other sides something to think about. Best Im told were Chappy with 5 goals, the perennial B on G, Tails, Strico, Dale and Bosy up back and little Maca..U owe me 20….

McIntrye in hot pursuit of Scott Kemble..and he got him !!

After all this it was going to be too much to expect all this fairy tale stuff to continue and unfortunately that how it turned out.  The key to this game was the control of the centre and long kicks to standout forwards.. Unfortunately for us Seaford played this to perfection . With winning rucks in Clark and Epa, feeding Chris Irving and Fortran  who supplied great ball to Kraska for a match winning 7 goals there wasnt much we could do..or for me to scribe about , be it I thought our backs held up admirably again, against the torrent of Seaford ball.

All I can think of for our winners on the day, are  Ducky who was brilliantly all day with great heart, keeping Marsh scoreless, Wintle ( for mine the find of the year ) on Pat Cadd, Nackers on McCormack, BJ on various and Pooly, Steve Roberts and Benny T who provided the only discerable drive, and Locky the only forward to speak of..the final score being 11.12.78 to 18.11.119 and only made respectable only by our 5 last Q goals after Seaford had turned off the motor !! …Next week Eady/Asp and a whole new ball game….
